Revelations for the Doubting Catholic

If you’re hungry for Truth, God provides evidence of His existence in a myriad of ways…

Welcome!

My name is Laura and I am a wife to a wonderful husband, mother of four, registered nurse, avid reader and blogger.

We live on a farm in the United States raising Angus cattle, chickens and Kinder goats. Besides the farm, I love spending time with family, doing anything outdoors and going on trips to the mountains.

When I was a young adult I fell away from my Catholic faith for more than ten years.

In 2016, my husband found Mother Angelica through our local Catholic radio station, and I could not stop listening–I fell in love with Jesus Christ and the beautiful teachings of the Catholic Church.

My search for evidence for the truth within the Catholic faith brought about three years of careful research and a written manuscript called Revelations for the Doubting Catholic: Evidence of Truth in a Truthless World, for the countless fallen-away or “doubting Catholics” who were like me.

I have completed the editing process and pray it will be published someday.

In this blog, I write about perennial and current events and how they relate to Christianity.

My goal is to show that by employing theology, philosophy and right reasoning, one can always find the truth.

I use top-notch sources such as Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, various saints and sound philosophical and scientific research studies to back my claims.

What’s the point?

Why did I write a manuscript and begin this blog?

The youth and young adults in our society are experiencing discouragement, and they hunger for proof of the existence of objective truth.

Scary stats

I discovered evidence of this after learning some scary statistics that reflect the dire spiritual starvation in our society today.

In May of 2023, the United States Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, declared an “epidemic of loneliness and isolation” affecting Americans today.

He compared its mortality rate equates to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day!

In the report, Dr. Murthy also said that religious and faithbased communities can serve as the antidote to our loneliness.

Yet the religiosity in America has been trending downward for some time now.

A snapshot survey of a seven-year period (2007-2014) by the Pew Research Center showed that in the United States alone, 18-29-year-olds who have abandoned organized religion has increased by one-third (https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/religious-landscape-study/age-distribution/18-29/).

2019 Pew Research Center poll showed 26% of adults in the U.S. declared themselves as “nones” (no religious affiliation),

and a 2021 Gallop Poll revealed U.S. church/mosque/synagogue membership fell below the majority for the first time in U.S. history (47%).

In 1999, religious membership was 70%.

Drugs, sex and suicide

In 2022, the United States saw the highest drug overdose-related death toll on record at 109,680 people (CDC).

Sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) in the U.S. were recorded at 2.5 million between 2020-2021–with 55% of the cases affecting adolescents and young adults (CDC).

And the suicide rate is also increasing: 49,449 people took their own lives in 2022–the highest number recorded in the United States since 1941 (CDC), and 3% higher than in 2021 (48,183).

Why bother?

So with the rise of all this hopelessness, why bother?

The truth

Jesus Christ, the only Person on earth whose birth was foretold before He was born, came into the world for one reason only: to save humanity from itself by offering it life.

How did He do this?

By becoming the definitive sacrifice in atonement for the sins of the whole world—including humanity’s past, present and future sins—so we can be reconciled to God.

But how else?

Jesus answers this question today the same way He answered the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, 2,000 years ago:

For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice (John 18:37 NRSVCE).

That is the premise and purpose of this entire blog–to testify to the truth.

What is truth? (John 18:38)

With the rising phenomenon of the gender identity crisis, young people don’t know where to turn for stability, love and peace. They are the “poor” of today because they are the most affected by the cultural poverty of truth.

My blog appeals to anyone looking for the truth, especially the “doubting Catholic” searching for the source of his/her identity and happiness.

I do this by showing how and why our identity is rooted in God alone.

So check it out!
